On Monday, February 10, 2025, during the Opening Plenary session of the 2025 Simulation Innovation Workshop (SIW) in Orlando, FL, SISO presented Dr. Katherine L. Morse, IEEE Fellow and current Chair of the SISO Executive Committee, with the SISO Technical Merit Award, which “recognizes technical excellence in the development of standards.” Dr. Morse, who is now with Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), has been recognized previously with the SISO Meritorious Service Award for her long history of service to SISO, including serving multiple terms on the Executive Committee (EXCOM), Standards Activity Committee (SAC) and the SISO, Inc. Board of Directors. Dr. Morse has an equally long history of leading successful standards development efforts. She has been a constant contributor to the technical evolution of the HLA standard, serving in leadership roles on all HLA revisions, including as HLA PDG Secretary and HLA Rules Editor for the latest HLA 4 revision. She led the development and standardization of the Federation Engineering Agreements Template (FEAT), and was also instrumental in the recent reaffirmations (through IEEE) of the Distributed Simulation Engineering and Execution Process (DSEEP) and DSEEP Multi-Architecture Overlay (DMAO). More recently, Dr. Morse led the development of the Cyber DEM (Data Exchange Model) and Simulation Interoperability Readiness Levels (SIRL) standards. Katherine also initiated the Electronic Warfare (EW) DEM Study Group, and is now co-chairing another new Study Group, the Federation Object Model (FOM)-Experience API (xAPI) (FOM-xAPI) Mapping Study Group. Katherine Morse’s demonstrated technical excellence embodies the core qualifications for the SISO Technical Merit Award. Congratulations and sincere thanks to Dr. Morse!
